HYDERABAD, July 6: Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, delivered a compelling address on Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Healthcare at the 16th Foundation Day Lecture of the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (IFHE).
Stressing that AI is a tool to augment rather than replace healthcare professionals, Dr. Reddy said: “AI will not replace doctors, but doctors who know how to use AI will replace those who don’t.”
He highlighted how AI is transforming drug discovery — reducing timelines from decades to just two years — along with radiology, telemedicine, precision medicine, cancer detection and remote monitoring.
At AIG Hospitals, AI-powered systems like MIRA (Medical Information Robotic Assistant) are assisting doctors and nurses, while iSAVE, an early warning system, alerts doctors nearly an hour before a patient’s condition deteriorates.
Dr. Reddy shared that AI has helped cut surgery dropout rates from nearly 20 per cent to 1 per cent by streamlining pre-anaesthesia evaluation, and supports nearly 700 endoscopy procedures daily.
He also spoke about affordable fatty liver screening and AI tools that generate clinical summaries from doctor-patient conversations.
While noting AI’s potential to democratise healthcare and extend quality services to millions, he cautioned that issues of data quality, ethics, privacy and regulation must be addressed.
Presiding over the function, ICFAI Chancellor Dr. C. Rangarajan paid tribute to founder N.J. Yasaswy and said AI must be used responsibly to make healthcare more affordable and inclusive for every section of society.
Faculty, students and dignitaries attended the lecture. (Sponsored)
