SHILLONG, July 6: Police arrested three persons and seized suspected narcotics in two separate operations at Lum Survey and Jacob’s Ladder on Monday.
In a joint raid at Lum Survey, personnel from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Special Operations Team (SOT), and the Infiltration Wing arrested Rafim Ali (43) and his wife, Jaybhanu Begum (35). The couple, residents of Assam, were found in possession of 116 vials containing approximately 14.42 grams of suspected drugs.
Police sources said several other suspects fled the area before the raiding team arrived. The operation followed repeated concerns from local residents regarding drug trafficking in the locality.
In a separate incident, a suspected peddler was apprehended at Jacob’s Ladder after being spotted by a vigilant resident. The citizen, a resident of Laban, noticed the man’s suspicious behaviour on Saturday and confronted him before alerting the authorities.
Personnel from Laitumkhrah Police Station arrived at the scene and detained the suspect. A quantity of suspected narcotics and capsules, reportedly packed for distribution, was recovered from his possession.
Investigations are ongoing in both cases to trace the source of the contraband and identify other members of the illegal drug networks.
