SHILLONG, July 8: Residents have raised concerns over the legality of a check gate recently established by the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) at Nongtalang. The gate was reportedly set up on June 4 on the National Highway connecting Amlarem and Dawki.
Locals have urged the state government to clarify whether Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) are permitted to operate check gates on National Highways, noting that these points collect taxes from the general public.
