SHILLONG, July 12: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum on Saturday urged the youths to prioritise skill-based training to become self-reliant instead of waiting for limited government job opportunities.
Speaking as the chief guest at the second anniversary of BH Accentuate Makeup, Hair and Academy, Nongrum felicitated students who completed professional courses in makeup, hair styling and beauty care.
He also noted that vocational skills are essential in the current job market to ensure financial independence.
The MLA then commended the academy’s founder, Badap Hynniewta, for returning to Meghalaya after a successful career in New Delhi to train local youth.
“He chose to come back and train young people instead of pursuing only his own career. That is a service to society,” Nongrum said.
He also assured the gathering that he would continue to raise youth-related concerns in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and seek necessary interventions to protect their interests.
Meanwhile, Riatsamthiah Rangbah Shnong M. Kharkrang, while addressing the event, highlighted the increasing relevance of vocational education and encouraging trainees to utilise their skills to improve their livelihoods.
The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates to the graduating students.
