GUWAHATI, July 14: Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu held a review meeting with a delegation from Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) here to discuss key education-related issues concerning the hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.

The meeting reviewed the progress and requirements of higher education and school education, including Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and Adarsha Vidyalayas, with a focus on improving access to quality education and strengthening educational infrastructure.

The KAAC delegation was led by its chief executive member Tuliram Ronghang.

Earlier this month, a KAAC delegation of MLAs and representatives of the Karbi Anglong District Government Venture (Non-Provincialised) School Teachers and Employees Association submitted a memorandum to the education minister, regarding the provincialisation of teachers and employees serving in Government Venture (Non-Provincialised) educational institutions across East and West Karbi Anglong.

Concerns arising from the provisions of the amended Education Act, 2025, particularly in the context of the unique circumstances of the Sixth Schedule areas, were highlighted in the memorandum.

Among the issues raised were the need for greater flexibility in eligibility criteria, consideration of the educational realities of our hill districts, and inclusion of all deserving teachers and employees under the provincialisation process.

The education minister assured the KAAC delegation that the state government was working closely with the Council to advance the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 and ensure inclusive, quality education for students across the hill districts.
