New Delhi, July 13: Former India head coach Rahul Dravid has said he remains interested in taking up coaching assignments despite venturing into cricket franchise ownership as co-owner of the Dublin Guardians in the inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL).
Dravid, who recently joined the ownership group of the Dublin-based franchise, stressed that his involvement with the tournament would occupy only a small part of the year, leaving him available should an attractive coaching opportunity arise.“I would certainly be interested if the right opportunity comes along,” Dravid told BBC Sport, adding that the ETPL provides him with a chance to explore something different while still allowing time for future coaching roles.
ETPL commitment won’t rule out coachingThe former India captain said the ETPL, scheduled from August 26 to September 20, would require his attention for only about a month, although he acknowledged there would be additional responsibilities before and after the competition.Dravid said he was committed to the league but remained open-minded about coaching or other cricket-related roles if they proved exciting enough.England vacancy sparks speculationDravid’s comments come at a time when England are searching for a new Test head coach following the dismissal of Brendon McCullum.
The England and Wales Cricket Board is aiming to appoint a successor before the three-Test series against Pakistan, beginning on August 19.Should Dravid emerge as a contender for the role, his commitments with the ETPL could present a scheduling challenge, with the new European league overlapping England’s international calendar.
