Rome, July 13: Italian football great Paolo Maldini has accepted the Italian Football Federation’s (FIGC) offer to become the country’s new technical director, marking his return to a senior role in football administration after leaving AC Milan in 2023.
According to Italian media reports, Maldini will work alongside former Milan teammate Leonardo, who has been appointed as an advisor. The duo are expected to spearhead a wide-ranging overhaul of Italy’s football structure with the long-term objective of guiding the Azzurri back to the FIFA World Cup in 2030.
One of Maldini’s first reported moves was an informal discussion with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to assess his interest in taking charge of the Italian national team in the future. (Agencies)
