SHILLONG, July 14: The Meghalaya government is awaiting a report from NEIGRIHMS on the alleged molestation of a minor girl by a male nurse at the institute.
Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said on Tuesday that NEIGRIHMS is inquiring into the incident. “We are waiting for the report and based on the report, we will take action and if necessary even intervene,” he said.
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has urged East Khasi Hills police to immediately arrest the accused male nurse, alleging delays in action and concerns over the hospital’s handling.
As per KSU, the alleged incident took place on July 4 after the minor’s appendix operation. She was shifted to an observation room post-surgery and left alone without a female nurse or attendant. She was allegedly molested and could not seek help as she had no strength after surgery.
