Haryana sweeps team titles at U-23 National Wrestling Championship

Rohtak, July 14: Hosts Haryana stamped their authority by sweeping the overall team titles in men’s freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling at the U-23 National Wrestling Championships here on Tuesday. The host state topped the men’s freestyle division with 200 points, the Greco-Roman category with 195 points, and the women’s wrestling field with 183 points at the three-day domestic event. Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) finished runners-up in both men’s freestyle (138 points) and Greco-Roman (165 points), while Maharashtra claimed the second spot in the women’s wrestling team standings with 160 points. In the men’s freestyle category, Haryana and SSCB athletes shared the major honours alongside strong performances from Punjab. (PTI)

Manav-Manush combine climbs to world No. 2 in ITTF rankings

New Delhi, July 14: Indian table tennis reached a milestone on Tuesday as three doubles pairs across the men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles entered the top 10 of the latest ITTF World Rankings. Leading the charge are Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah, who climbed to World No. 2 in the men’s doubles rankings – the highest-ever ranking achieved by an Indian pair in any doubles discipline. In women’s doubles, Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade broke into the top 10 by reaching World No. 10, while Diya Chitale and Shah rose to World No. 5 in the mixed doubles rankings. It is the first time that India have had three doubles pairs – one each in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles – simultaneously ranked inside the top 10. The achievement highlights India’s growing stature as one of the strongest doubles-playing nations with the country’s partnerships consistently challenging traditional powerhouses such as China, Japan, South Korea and Chinese Taipei. Sanya Vats bows out of HCL Squash PSA Challenger

Chennai, July 14: Fourth seed Sanya Vats’ impressive run ended after she lost to top seed Rouqaia Othman of Egypt in the semifinals of the HCL Squash PSA Challenger Tour-Chennai here on Tuesday. Vats suffered a 4-11, 2-11, 5-11 loss to the Egyptian at the Indian Squash Academy. (PTI)
