New Delhi, July 16: Activist Sonam Wangchuk has ruled out ending his indefinite hunger strike despite appeals from political leaders and supporters, saying breaking the fast without any response from the government would send the wrong message.
“If I eat, what message will go? The message to the government will be that there is no need for accountability. Protesters sit and leave…” said Wangchuk and asked what would change if he ended the fast.
Instead, he urged people to strengthen the Cockroach Janta Party’s proposed Parliament march on July 20, saying students in schools and colleges should participate “in a real lesson in political science and democracy”.
Seeking to allay concerns, Wangchuk said medical examinations conducted so far had not indicated any immediate danger.
Instead of appealing to him to end the fast, Wangchuk urged supporters to participate in large numbers in the CJP’s proposed “Chalo Sansad” march on July 20, so that a message is sent to the government.

Politics must have room for compassion, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said, as he called out the Centre for not approaching activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike for 19 days.
Abdullah noted that the activist has only one demand: the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

‘Govt only concerned with securing 2/3rd majority’

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Thursday appealed to activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his indefinite hunger strike and dubbed the BJP-led Centre as “anti-people”, asserting that such a government had no right to stay in power.
He urged Wangchuk to end his fast, saying the Centre couldn’t care less about him but the youth was with him and there were many more battles to be fought in the future. (Agencies)
