SHILLONG, July 16: Prof. Jyoti J. Mozika of the Department of Law, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), has been appointed Vice Chancellor of the National Law University (NLU) Meghalaya.
She is expected to take charge in August. The post had been vacant since the retirement of the university’s first Vice Chancellor, Prof. Indrajit Dube, in February. Founding Registrar Kerpa Meida Lyngdoh Nongbri has been holding charge in the interim.
Prof. Mozika brings over 27 years of teaching experience. A gold medalist in both B.A. LL.B. and LL.M., she holds a PhD in Law from the University of North Bengal.
She has served four terms as Head of the Department of Law at NEHU and held several academic and administrative positions in universities and professional bodies across the country.
She is the wife of Dr. Nitesh Mozika, Senior Advocate at the High Court of Meghalaya and Deputy Solicitor General of India.
Her appointment is seen as a boost for legal education in the Northeast, given her roots in the region’s academic community and is also expected to benefit the administration at NLU which has seen a spate of protests by students in recent times.
