SHILLONG, July 16: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in East Khasi Hills has crossed the 81 per cent mark in the distribution of Enumeration Forms (EFs), with the district administration intensifying field supervision and public outreach to ensure greater voter participation ahead of the completion of the exercise.
According to a press note issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Election), East Khasi Hills, the enumeration phase of the SIR commenced on June 30 across all 898 polling parts in the district’s 15 Assembly constituencies. The administration said the distribution of Enumeration Forms has been progressing smoothly with active participation from the electorate.
As of July 16, a total of 4,58,038 Enumeration Forms had been distributed out of 5,62,001 electors in the district, representing 81.50 per cent coverage. Of these, 1,00,403 forms, or 17.87 per cent, have been digitised.
It was informed that the district SIR Helpline received 87 calls on Thursday, all of which were resolved.
The third weekly district-level meeting with representatives of political parties was held on Thursday in the office chamber of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election) R. Wahlang, who chaired the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the SIR enumeration exercise, reiterated the importance of public participation and appealed to electors to visit their respective polling stations on July 18 to complete the enumeration process.
To monitor the ongoing house-to-house enumeration, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) conducted field visits on July 15 and 16 in several Assembly constituencies, including East Shillong, Sohiong, Mylliem, Pynursla, Nongthymmai, North Shillong, Pynthorumkhrah and Mawlai.
Among the Assembly constituencies, Mawkynrew recorded the highest Enumeration Form distribution at 94.10 per cent, followed by Pynursla with 90.61 per cent and Sohiong with 89.35 per cent. Nongthymmai recorded the lowest distribution at 70.43 per cent.
In terms of digitisation, Mawsynram topped the district with 28.77 per cent of Enumeration Forms digitised, followed by Pynursla at 26.18 per cent and Mawkynrew at 24.70 per cent.
The district administration said it will continue field visits, house-to-house verification and awareness activities to ensure the successful completion of the SIR exercise.
