SC allows release of animated film Mahaprabhu Jagannath

The Supreme Court on Friday permitted the all India release of animated film Mahaprabhu Jagannath on or after July 28 post Lord Jagannath Yatra festivities. A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and R Mahadevan noted that the animated movie was based on a web series already released on Youtube, and that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had granted clearance for its screening. The producers of the film, which was scheduled to be released Friday, had challenged the July 15 order of the Orissa High Court which restrained Ele Animations Pvt Ltd from releasing the movie. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the State, said the Yatra has commenced on Thursday in Odisha and other parts of the country. The bench, which refused to stay the high court order, declined to direct the release of the movie on July 17. (PTI)

Rose Byrne, Jenna Ortega join Nasty

Actors Rose Byrne and Jenna Ortega are set to feature in sports drama Nasty. The film is directed by Mary Bronstein, known for Yeast and will be released by Warner Bros’ new indie label, Clockwork, according to the entertainment news outlet Variety. The project reunites Byrne and Bronstein, who have previously collaborated on If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, which released in 2025. Byrne received her first Oscar nomination in the Best Actress category for her role in the film. Nasty revolves around an athlete who is battling for a spot on the Olympic gymnastics team and who recognises that her greatest opponent is her coach. It is produced by Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment alongside Ortega. (PTI)

Pop queen Shakira turned cheerleader, passionately celebrating Lionel Messi and Argentina’s thrilling comeback victory over England in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinal in Atlanta.
