CBSE declares Class 10 2nd board results
New Delhi, July 18: The CBSE on Saturday declared the results for its Class 10 second board exams, in which the pass percentage rose to 96.78, officials said. The pass percentage in the first edition was 93.6 per cent, and the new pass percentage is the overall figure after combining the two results, they said. “Over 6.63 lakh candidates appeared for the second edition of the board exams, out of which more than 5.13 lakh appeared for improvement. Over 59 per cent of candidates improved their performance as compared to the main exam,” CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said. More than 1.49 lakh candidates had appeared in the compartment category, of which over 52 per cent cleared the exam, Bhardwaj said. In line with the recommendations of the National Education Policy-2020, CBSE introduced two board examinations for Class 10 from 2026. The main exam was conducted from February 17 to March 11, followed by the second exam from May 15 to May 21. The second exam provided the eligible students with an opportunity to improve their performance, with the better of the two performances being considered for preparing the final result. (PTI)
ISRO targets 7 launches; next mission within two months
Sriharikota (Andhra Pradesh), July 18: ISRO is targeting seven launches during the current financial year, with the next mission scheduled to lift off within the next two months, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan announced on Saturday. Speaking at a press conference following the historic maiden orbital launch of Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 rocket, Narayanan stated that two satellites are already fully built, while five to six others are in the final phase of integration. “This financial year, we have targeted at least seven launches. We will start the launch within two months,” Narayanan said. The space agency’s upcoming operational schedule includes the first uncrewed mission under the Gaganyaan human spaceflight program, alongside the slated satellite launches. (PTI)
Five drown in Godavari while fishing
Gumma Kothagudem (Andhra Pradesh), July 18: Three women and two men drowned in the Godavari River in Polavaram district while fishing on Saturday, police said. Amit Bardar, in-charge Superintendent of Police, said the incident occurred at around 10 am. “Five persons-three women and two men-drowned in the Godavari River at Gumma Kothagudem village,” Bardar said, adding that they had ventured into deeper waters when the incident occurred. A group of 10 people had gone fishing, and five of them drowned. He said the group had entered the river holding hands and using clothes and mosquito nets while fishing. He also mentioned that a considerable amount of time had passed before the police came to know of the incident. Bardar also said the remaining five initially searched for the missing persons instead of immediately calling for help. (PTI)
