New Delhi, July 18: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed speculation that the third ODI against England at Lord’s on Sunday will be Rohit Sharma’s final appearance in the 50-over format.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said there had been no discussion regarding the Indian captain’s retirement and asserted that Rohit remains a key member of the ODI squad.
“There has been no such discussion that Rohit will be playing his last match at Lord’s on Sunday. Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team and will continue to represent the country as long as he remains in the scheme of things. In other words, the Lord’s ODI won’t be his last match,” Saikia told ANI. Speculation over the 39-year-old’s future intensified during the ongoing England series following modest scores of 11 and 26 in the first two ODIs. Rohit, who made his ODI debut against Ireland in 2007, has already retired from T20 Internationals and Test cricket. He has scored 241 runs in eight ODIs this year at an average of 30.12, with a highest score of 79. (Agencies)
