Couple dead, two grievously hurt in Rajabala fire; short-circuit suspected

TURA, July 23: At least two persons were killed while another two were left critically injured after a fire, apparently caused by an electrical short circuit, engulfed their home and shop in Rajabala under West Garo Hills district. The incident took place around 10 am, with the local Rajabala police station being informed around the same time.
Sources said Rajnikant Bhowmik and his aged wife died from burn injuries in the fire, while their daughter and grandson were left seriously injured.
The fire broke out in a house-cum-shop where other residents were also present, but the couple did not have enough time to react and were burnt. Two shops and the house were impacted by the blaze.
The two injured were rushed to the nearby Hatsingimari Civil Hospital before being referred to the Tura Civil Hospital for further medical care.
Both the mother and son remained critical till the filing of this report.
