SHILLONG, July 24: The High Court of Meghalaya on Friday inaugurated a Continuous Legal Education Programme, with members of the judiciary stressing the need for constant learning and improved advocacy skills among young lawyers.
The event, held at the High Court auditorium, was inaugurated by Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere in the presence of Justice Biswadeep Bhattacharjee. The programme followed the formal opening of the Bar Council of Meghalaya’s new office.
Former Supreme Court Judge Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka, who attended the event, delivered the keynote address on the theme ‘Fundamental Duties’.
Justice Oka highlighted the importance of the duties enshrined in the Constitution and urged the legal fraternity to uphold these values in their professional practice and public life.
During the session, speakers noted that young advocates must regularly update their knowledge to remain effective in an evolving legal landscape.
The initiative is designed to provide a platform for professional discussion and capacity building, ultimately aimed at strengthening the administration of justice in the state.
