Shillong, July 27: Sunrays Secondary School clinched the boys’ overall title, while Synod Higher Secondary School emerged girls’ champions at the 32nd Inter School Karate Tournament, which concluded here on Monday.
Sunrays bagged 18 medals (8 gold, 6 silver, 4 bronze), while Synod secured 19 medals (3 gold, 6 silver, 10 bronze). St Anthony’s HSS finished runners-up in the boys’ category, with Sacred Heart Girls’ HSS placing second among the girls.
Organised by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the three-day event at the SAI Indoor Hall, NEHU, attracted a record 802 karatekas from 126 schools.Fresh from winning South Asian Championship gold for India, Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri claimed another gold for St Anthony’s HSS. He and South Asian bronze medallist Gideon Tympuin were felicitated during the tournament.
Best Karateka awards went to Daaron R Warjri, Pusaimi I Kyndiah, Emma T Kharwansuk and Asenka Beryl Marwein.
