New Delhi: The Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Delhi Police Crime Branch has succeeded in reuniting a 17-year-old girl with her family, as part of its Operation Milaap. The Operation Milaap aims to find missing children and unite them with their parents.
The girl was staying at the Ashraya Family Home, a children’s home in south Delhi’s Madanpur Dabas area.
During interaction with Crime Branch officials, the girl, who hails from Punjab, said she belonged to a poor family. She said she used to visit fairs with her parents to sell balloons.
In September, she was lured by a man named Rinku to come to Delhi and they stayed in west Delhi’s Bawana area.
She told police Rinku raped her and left after living with her for 10 days. Later, she was found by police and sent to the children’s home Sep 17.
“Due to fear of social stigma, she did not give her actual address to police, but on compassionate persuasion, she provided proper details of her family to the Crime Branch team,” an official said.
“The Crime Branch team traced the girl’s family in Ludhiana and she was handed over to her parents,” the official added.
Operation Milaap was launched by Delhi Police Dec 18 to check all children’s homes in Delhi to match their records with the available data of missing and kidnapped children.
The AHTU has formed five police teams for the drive.
The teams will visit every child at the 96 children’s homes in Delhi under the government Children Welfare Committee.
“Through Operation Milap, Crime Branch officials check each and every child in the children’s homes and make all efforts to get any clue about their parents so that they can be restored properly,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav told IANS.
“Police have also been asked to screen and document all children staying in shelters, railway platforms, bus stands, roads and religious places. Their photographs will be taken by police officials and documentation will be done to link them properly,” Yadav said. (IANS)
