Shillong: The BSF was conspicuous by their absence from the meeting convened by the Federation of Ri-War Mihngi Local Dorbars (FORMLD) to discuss the prevailing law and order situation along the Indo-Bangladesh international border held in Pynursla in East Khasi Hills district on Saturday.

BSF’s absence from the meeting has come as a major surprise for FORMLD since BSF DIG A Asthana had himself had suggested the date for this meeting.

Commenting on the absence of the BSF, FORMLD general secretary Peter Rynjah said it is really surprising that no one from the BSF turned up for the meeting.

“Actually, it was the DIG who had suggested the FORMLD to convene this meeting. He had even suggested the date for the meeting,” Rynjah added.

When asked if this absence from the meeting is an indication that BSF are not concerned about the problems faced by people residing along the border, he said, “Had the force been more responsible than they would have been prompt in attending the meeting. It proves that they are not really bothered about the issues concerning our local people,” the FORMLD secretary said.
