AIADMK, DMK members stage walk out on Rajiv killers issue

Puducherry: The opposition AIADMK and DMK members on Saturday staged a walk out in the territorial assembly protesting against the Speaker refusing permission to raise an issue pertaining to the three accused in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

DMK member A M H Nazeem raised the issue during zero hour about the death sentence to the accused in the case, to which Speaker V Sabapathy denied permission stating that it was sub judice and should not be taken up in the assembly.

The AIADMK members who made a vain attempt yesterday to raise the issue joined the DMK members and pressed that the issue be allowed to be raised in the House.

Mr Sabapathy however, made it clear that none of the remarks made by the members would enter the assembly records and would be expunged .

Mr Nazeem aruged with the Speaker and said that if the remarks of the DMK members were expunged ,they would stage a walk out.

In the meantime, the fiive member AIADMK block moved to the podium of the Speaker and entered into an argument with him. They also sat in a dharna in the well of the House, while the two DMK members staged a walk out protesting against the Speaker’s ruling.

The Speaker requested the AIADMK members to resume their seat as they got to speak on demands today. When the members made some reference to the Tamil Nadu governemnt, the Speaker said that the Tamil Nadu government had vast powers unlike the Puducherry government. (UNI)
