SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Police has made elaborate security arrangements to ensure that celebrations on New Year eve pass off without any untoward incident. The focus is on the capital city of Shillong where police will be on their toes both on December 31 and January 1.

Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills M Kharkrang on Saturday said that police are carrying out vehicle checking throughout the city besides conducting raids on illicit “liquor stores” across the city. Kharkrang warned that anyone found drinking and creating nuisance would be put behind bars. Police personnel would be deployed in the city roads in sizeable numbers to keep track of the situation. The EKH SP also said that police will put special focus on prevention of drunk driving.

It may be mentioned that a number of cases of drunk driving and brawls come to fore on New Year eve.
