Shillong all set to usher in New Year in style

Shillong: As a part of the New Year celebration, the Government of Meghalaya, through the Department of Arts and Culture, will organise the first Shillong Midnight Festival at Khyndailad on the night of December 31.

The Midnight Festival will act as a confluence of local music, dance and food in the heart of the city. This will be the first Shillong Midnight Festival, to be followed up over the coming years, with the aim of adding to the tourism potential of Meghalaya.

Stages will be set up on the Old Assembly steps and slopes, while a special extension of stage will be built into the audience for a performance box for DJs.

Cubicles, Dossers Urge and Fourth Element are some of the bands that will thrill the crowd on the Midnight of December 31.

The Government of Meghalaya has welcomed everyone to usher in the New Year in a spirit of peace and unity.

The Festival will be focused on the themed around the need for a sense of ownership over the city’s share of resources and ‘Going Green’ and ‘Keeping Meghalaya Clean’.

Special trusses will also be set up on the Island at Khyndailad to create a special lighted ambience for the entire area, which will be turned into a pedestrian only zone.
