New Delhi: India on Monday summoned Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi, Abdul Basit, to the External Affairs Ministry here and conveyed strong protests against the release of 26/11 mastermind Zaki-ur-Rahman Lakhvi by an Islamabad court.

During the meeting, Basit was conveyed in “strong terms” India’s protest and told that the decision went against Pakistan’s commitment to fighting terrorism, sources said.

He was told that the decision called into question Pakistan’s entire approach towards terrorism.

Basit refused to comment after the meeting.

Earlier, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad granted bail to Lakhvi saying the prosecution could not prove enough against him.

Islamabad High Court Judge Noorul Haq N Qureshi, while accepting Lakhvi’s application challenging his detention under the MPO, suspended the government’s order in this regard and directed him to submit a surety bond of Rs 1 million. The court also asked Lakhvi to ensure his presence in every hearing of the Mumbai attacks case. (Agencies)
