Fraudster dupes WJH youths

DSC_0678SHILLONG: A fraudster identified as Eikihun Chullet duped over 30 youths from Jaintia Hills of lakhs of rupees promising jobs in return in the unheard of Meghalaya Rural Development Organisation.

Chullet who claimed to be the president of the organization also allegedly issued fake appointment letters to the victims besides issuing them salary cheques which bounced.

Addressing pressmen here on Saturday, some of the job seekers from West Jaintia Hills said that they even sold off their lands to pay the swindler.

The youths said that the cheque issued to them bore account number 33822040966 which was opened at SBI’s Mynso Branch in West Jaintia Hills.

According to the youths, the fraudster used the “memorandum of association” of a registered Self Help Group-Pasyih Elaka Shangpung – to operate the Meghalaya Rural Development Organisation.

The youths also alleged that some appointment letters issued to them were signed by one J. Hynniewta, claiming to be the director of RBI Shillong while others were signed by a woman. “We have never met the two persons who had issued the appointments,” they said.

One of the victims Nebel Wann sold off his land to pay Rs 9.50 lakh to Chullet to ensure that his daughter and granddaughter get employment.

Similarly, another job aspirant Phaimin Lamin, who had completed his BCA from Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), paid Rs 2.48 lakh for the post of branch manager. One P. Lypon paid Rs 2 lakh for the driver’s post while Damehi Siangshai paid over Rs 3 lakh for securing contract work in the organization.

At least five FIRs have been lodged with Jowai police in this regard.
