Lahore: In a gruesome incident, a seven-year- old girl was allegedly raped and stoned to death in Pakistan’s Punjab province, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place yesterday in Mianda Kot village in Gujranwala district’s Hafizabad tehsil, some 90 kilometers from here. According to the victim’s father, the girl went missing on Tuesday evening while she was playing outside her house.
“We filed a missing report with the local police station and searched her but to no avail,” he said. Her body was found in a field near her house yesterday, police said, adding the body was shifted to the district headquarters hospital where doctors confirmed she was raped before being stoned to death.
The police have registered a case and took some suspects from the village into custody. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the district police chief to arrest the culprit(s) at the earliest. (PTI)
