Aizawl: Former Uttara-khand Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi was today sworn in as the 15th governor of Mizoram, as well as sixth governor in six months.
The newly appointed Gauhati High Court judge from Mizoram Justice Michael Zothankhuma administered oath of office to Qureshi at the Raj Bhavan here today in the presence of chief minister, ministers, MLAs and officials.
Dr Qureshi, 74, was sworn in after Mizoram chief secretary Lalmalsawma read out the warrant of appoin-tment of Qureshi as Mizo-ram governor by President Pranab Mukherjee.
The swearing-in ceremo-ny was attended by chief minister Lal Thanhawla, assembly speaker Hiphei, ministers, parliamentary secretaries, MLAs, officials and media persons.
Qureshi was the sixth person to take oath as Mizoram during the last six months as Mizoram was made what was described as a “dumping ground” for unwanted governors.
It all began in July, 2014 when Governor Vakkom B Purushothaman quit in protest after he was transferred to Nagaland saying he had not been consulted and “Governors cannot be treated like clerks”. (UNI)
