Centre yet to name committee to study State’s BPL list

Panel to examine data of Meghalaya’s Socio-Economic & Caste Census

SHILLONG: The State Government is still waiting for the constitution of the expert committee by the Ministry of Rural Development to analyze the data of the State’s Socio-Economic and Caste Census which has already been uploaded on the official website of the Community and Rural Development department.
“The expert committee will make a detailed analysis before preparing the profiles of the various households by including the socio-economic census and educational status of the people in the State,” official sources informed here on Sunday.
Official sources also informed that the expert committee will also be ranking the households based on their socio-economic census both in the urban and rural areas.
According to official sources, the latest BPL list will also be based as per the socio-economic census.
Official sources, however, said that it will be difficult to indicate when the exercise would be completed by the Ministry since the same exercise will be carried out in all the states.
The BPL list presently maintained by the Department is has been drawn out of the 2002 Census.
