SHILLONG: Miffed with the continued violation of its order by the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, the KHADC on Thursday warned of stringent action against any traditional chief who grants No Objection Certificate (NOC) to non-tribals to allow them to apply for fresh trading licenses from the Council. It is reported that the Syiem of Mylliem, Latho Manik Syiem, has been issuing NOCs to non-tribal businessmen who are apply for fresh trading licenses from the Council.
“We have decided to take stringent action against any traditional head who violates the directive of the Council and issues NOC to any non-tribal businessmen,” Executive Member in charge of Trade, Latiplang Kharkongor, told newsmen here on Thursday.
Kharkongor alleged that the Syiem of Hima Mylliem and his officials including Myntris had recently issued an NOC to a non tribal businessman and had apologized to the KHADC later.
“We have urged upon the Syiem of Mylliem to abide by the directive of the Council,” he said.
It may be mentioned that the KHADC issued a notice in October 2013, directing all Himas not to issue fresh NOCs to non tribals since the Council had decided to stop issuing fresh trading licenses.
Meanwhile, the KHADC has also asked the Hima to submit a list of both tribal and non tribal traders operating in Iewduh market to enable the Council to prepare details of the same.
“We have asked the Hima to submit the list within two months,” he said.
