SHILLONG: The State Government would soon release another fleet of 240 buses sanctioned under the JNNURM. Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the addition would help in improving the public transport system in the city.
Acceding to persistent demands from the State, the Centre had, in 2013, approved another fleet of 240 buses for Meghalaya following a meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee on Bus Funding and Ancillary Infrastructure Projects under the JNNURM.
According to Lyngdoh, at the moment the State Government is working on the tendering process to select the operators who would ply the buses.
Reacting to a query on the maintenance of the buses, Lyngdoh said that Government will set new terms and conditions for the operators to ensure that the buses are well maintained.
The arrival of the buses is expected to cover the hitherto unconnected areas of the city.
