SHILLONG: The church elders of Mawsynram Presbyterian Church have proved that age is no bar when it comes to the game of football which requires huge strength and stamina.

The church elders who are above 45 years of age had a face off with the members of the church, who are much younger in age, in a friendly football match played to culminate the Youth Week Celebration here on Saturday.

It was a surprise for majority who came to watch the match to see the old lads not only give their younger opponents a run for their money but win the friendly 1-0.

The elders’ team went into the lead after the youngest member of their side, Section Syiemlieh, who was a last minute replacement, scored a brilliant goal in the initial stages of the match.

The members’ team tried hard to get the elusive equalizer but failed to convert the opportunities on a couple of occasions.

Earlier in the day, a football friendly was also organised for the young children and women as part of the week-long celebration.
