Kohima:Nagaland on Sunday joined the country in observing the “National Voters’ Day” and pledging to uphold the democratic traditions of the country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections.
The day was observed in all the 12 districts of the state under the theme ‘Easy Registration, Easy Correc-tion’. Awareness was created on registering one person in one place only, thereby promoting surren-der of duplicate registration.
Addressing a gathering as the chief guest, state Chief Secretary C J Ponraj called upon the electorates to have attitudinal change while exercising their franchise. He said a vote gives a politician to rule for five years and therefore it is very important that one should have the moral ethics and values while electing the leader.
“Adult franchise is a social contract between the rulers and the public,” he said. Newly enrolled electo-rs were presented with their electoral photo identity card. (PTI)
