Nagaland CM meets PM in Delhi, claims support

Kohima:Amid tussle between two Naga Peoples Front (NPF) groups, Chief Minister T R Zeliang met the prime minister and Union finance minister in New Delhi on Wednesday and appraised them of the situation in Nagaland.
A press release issued from the Chief Minister’s Office(CMO) on Thursday informed that during the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and  Arun Jaitley,  Zeliang informed them of the dissidents’ demand seeking change in leadership.
‘The Prime Minister, on his part, expressed full support to the Chief Minister and assured him that the Central Government as well as the BJP firmly back and support the leadership of the Chief Minister,’ the release stated.
Zeliang also requested the PM to consider release of a special financial grant to ease the accumulated financial problems being faced by the state. To this, Mr Modi assured him of looking into the request.
According to the CMO, in a separate meeting with  Jaitley,  Zeliang apprised him of the state’s financial position. The CM requested the finance minister for clearance of ODA loan of Rs 620 crores under JICA for the Nagaland Afforestation and Eco Development Project.
Jaitley informed that the request was under active consideration. Some financial relief would be provided soon, the FM stated and further expressed confidence that ‘significant improvement in the financial health of the state could be brought about from the next financial year’.
Later, the chief minister also met BJP national president Amit Shah and apprised him of the prevai-ling political scenario in the state. According to sources, the CM was accompanied by Naga People’s Front (NPF) president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu. (UNI)
