Kohima: The Naga Council of Dimapur has expressed concern over the fact that the town is gradually turning into a breeding ground for crime and criminals as well as becoming a place where land grabbing and encroachment are coming to the forefront.

The Naga Council General Secretary Ntsemo Ngullie and Finance Secretary Joel Nillo Kath in a statement denounced the recent trespass and harassment of a Forest officer over issues related to encroachment in Rangapahar reserved park and the recent abduction of a child studying in a Private School in Dimapur.

Criminal trespass into the official residence of Forest Ranger is an insult to the people of Nagaland, the Naga Council said.

The organisation has appealed to the police and the district administration to arrest the culprits at the earliest to set an example.

”In the chequered history of our state, thousands of hectares of Reserved Forests have been lost to encroachers, but it is witnessed that none of these people have been brought to book so far.

This is also the right time for the Forest Department to pull up its socks too,” the council said.

It appeals to the Department to demolish the unauthorised ‘cemetery’ inside the Zoological Park which remains to be a bone of contention, the council added. (UNI)
