Garo Hills coal mine tragedy
SHILLONG: The National Tribunal (NGT) has issued a bailable warrant against the four witnesses of the coal mine tragedy of South Garo Hills District while directing them to appear before the tribunal for cross examination during the next hearing on April 16.
As many as 15 persons trapped inside a coal mine in South Garo Hills died on July 6, 2012. The NGT also directed the SP of Dhubri district, Assam to bring the four witnesses along with him in the next hearing. “The same notice will also be issued to the Chief Secretary of Assam for compliance of the court order in ensuring that the SP of Dhubri district is present in the next hearing,” the Tribunal stated in the order.
It may be mentioned that the SP Dhubri was supposed to be present in Thursday’s hearing but his failure to turn up compelled the tribunal to issue the notice.
