Aizawl witnesses increased crime rates

Aizawl:Mizoram state capital Aizawl district recorded 35.16 percent increase in crime rates during 2014, police records said.
It was highlighted during an Aizawl district crime review meeting here on Friday that police stations in Aizawl district recorded a total of 792 major crimes in 2014, compared to 586 in 2013.
There were 11 cases of murder in the district last year, compared to nine in the previous year. Cases of attempt to murder also increased from eight to 13. There were two culpable homicide (not amounting to murder) cases in 2014 compared to nil in 2013.
Cases of burglary and thefts also increased from 195 and 326 to 252 and 455 respectively. Extortion cases increased from eight to 13 while rape cases saw a slight increase from 37 to 39. Kidnapping remained the same at two cases each during the two years. Last year also recorded one case of waging war against state.
Including minor crimes and offenses under special and local laws, Aizawl district registered a total of 1301 cases in 2014, against 1059 cases in the previous year.(UNI)
