Kohima:Nagaland Governor P B Acharya has summoned the seventh (emergent) session of the 12th State Legislative Assembly on February 5.
“In exercise of the power conferred by Clause (I) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India, the Governor, P B Acharya, has summoned the seventh (emergent) session of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on February 5,” an official notification issued by NLA Special Secretary A E Lotha said here on Monday.
The session assumes significance as it would decide on the internal squabbling, which had been going on for almost a month within the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) as 22 of its MLAs withdrew support from incumbent Chief Minister T R Zeliang-led government on January 5.
The dissidents had approached the Governor staking claim to form a new government under the leadership of G Kaito Aye, which led to sacking of six NPF legislators by the Chief Minister January 6, while 11 dissidents resigned from their respective portfolios the next day.
Chief Minister T R Zeliang had urged upon the Governor to summon the special session of the Assembly for trial of strength, while state cabinet approved the move on January 20.
The dissident group had been rejecting the proposal stating that it was an internal matter of the NPF party. The crisis within the NPF had led to formation of dissident camps in Sovima and Dimapur, with their rivals raising their voice in Kohima. (PTI)
