Nongmynsong housing project back on track, says Ampareen

SHILLONG:  The State Government has set March 2016 deadline to complete the construction of the low-cost housing units at Nongmynsong.
Out of the 600 housing units, which are to be constructed under the Centrally-sponsored JNNURM Basic Service of Urban Poor (BSUP) Scheme initiated in 2007, only 96 housing units have been completed.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said that she met the secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development to discuss ways and means to ensure timely completion of the project.
Stating that the  inventories for the project is completed, the minister informed that the Government is now going for the final enclosure of the project and even MUDA has called for necessary tenders to complete the project.
It may be mentioned that Delhi-based company Hindustan Prefab Limited (HPL), which was initially awarded the job, had backed out of the project.
“Now everything seems to be back on track,” the minister said.
The project  was awarded to the company in 2008 at an estimated cost of Rs 30.44 crore.
According to Lyngdoh,  48 units have been made occupied.
Reacting to a query on the upcoming low-cost housing units at Mawprem, the minister said that the project is nearing completion and its likely to be completed by March this year.
