Cop’s death

SHILLONG: Amidst the hue and cry over unnatural death of the police official PJ Marbaniang, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has stressed on the need to have faith and confidence on the Special Investigation (SIT) team which has been formed to investigate the matter.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Sangma said that proactive measures had already be taken by police to investigate the case  and this case  would now be investigated under the supervision of SP (Shillong City) Vivek Syiem and  IGP H Marbaniang.
Sangma also stated that the SIT would submit its report within ninety days from the date of notification on the formation of the team.
The SIT was notified by the Police Headquarters after it decided to register a murder case into death of  Marbaniang, who was the in-charge of Patharkhmah police outpost in Ri Bhoi District.
“The team would do its job in conformity with the profession,” Sangma said.
It was on January 24 that the  body of Marbaniang was found with bullet injury on his head, a day after he detained 32 trucks carrying coal to Assam violating NGT order.
The initial response of the police was that it was a suicide case, but with contradicting reports on the manner of death, the police version had come under criticism.
