Cabinet nod to pre-paid energy system

SHILLONG: The State Cabinet has approved the proposal for installation of ‘pre-paid metering system’ in the state with an aim to realize the revenue on a concurrent basis.
Announcing this after a Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that the Government has given financial support to Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited to encourage consumers to install prepaid meters.
“The special programme of the PPMS is being implemented by the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MPDCL), one of the entity of the MeECL, which have done due diligence based on technology,” Sangma said.
According to him, the exercise is to ensure that the MPDCL improves its revenue collection as well as ensuring that customers are not subjected to the problem of accumulated electricity bills.
The chief minister further informed that MeECL has also proposed to the State government to notify that all departments of the government must resort to the installation of PPMS for all energy consumption purposes.
Agri input subsidy
The State Cabinet also decided to release the agricultural input  subsidy for those people who were affected by drought last year.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Revenue and Disaster Management, RC Laloo    informed that the  subsidy would be released as per the provisions of State Disaster Relief Funds.
Nursing Home Licensing
In another decision, the State Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Nursing  Home Licensing and Registration Rules 2015.
Health and Family Welfare minister AL Hek told reporters that with these rules coming into force, all nursing homes in the state will have to have proper license and registration.
