Involve all stakeholders in formulating Village Admin Bill: KSU tells KHADC

SHILLONG:  The KSU has urged the KHADC to involve all the stakeholders while formulating the amendment of the Khasi Hills Autnomous District (Village Administration) Bill, 2014.
Following a meeting with KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum here on Thursday, KSU president Daniel Khyriem said that the CEM will soon convene a meeting of the various traditional heads to discuss the matter.
Khyriem said that the decision of the State Government to sought clarification on the bill has paved way for the various stakeholders to give their views and suggestion to further improve the critical bill which will define the powers and functions of the traditional heads especially the Rangbah Shnong.
The KSU president also informed that the union already had two rounds of discussion with the traditional heads on the ‘discrepancies’ of the present draft bill.
“We have detected some glaring deficiencies in the present bill. We will soon submit our proposal for amendments to the bill along with the traditional heads after the final of round of meeting which will be held shortly,” Khyriem said.
Khyriem also lamented “the lack of interest on the part of the Government to ensure the early passage of the important bill”.
Meanwhile, the KHADC CEM informed that the Council sent a letter to the State Government on Wednesday seeking clarification on the flaws and lacunae of the Village Administration Bill.
“The Council was compelled to write to the State Government since the letter received from the District Council Affairs (DCA) department did not specify the flaws in the bill,” he said.
