MMSA conference gets underway in city

Ensure medical services reach rural areas: Rowell to doctors

SHILLONG: The 19th Scientific Conference-cum-General Body Meeting of the Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) got underway at the State Convention Centre here on Friday.
The two-day conference is being held under the theme, “Health Care Delivery-Limitations and Beyond”.
Addressing the gathering during the event Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh said that though there are limitations in every sphere, doctors should look beyond limitations and render selfless service to the poor.
“Members of the MMSA should shoulder the responsibility of ensuring that medical services reach each and every village of the State,” he added.
Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek while highlighting the importance of the conference said that such meetings will be of great  help not only to the doctors and the Government but also to the service providers and stakeholders at large. He also urged the doctors to provide the best healthcare facilities to the poor.
Home Minister Roshan Warjri who was also present at the inaugural function said that despite the lack of infrastructure and unavailability of latest healthcare technologies, the doctors in the State are doing a commendable job.
It may be mentioned that doctors and stakeholders from the State and outside attended the inaugural function.
