No FIR lodged •No police action against mine owners
JOWAI: Amid the NGT ban on rat hole mining in the state, hundreds of coal mines are still operational as mines owners are extracting the black diamond violating the Tribunal order in East Jaintia HIlls district.
Unfortunately, on Thursday morning, one Tiplang Lamurong (40), a resident of Rangad village in East Jaintia Hills, died on the spot when he met with an accident in one of the coal mines located at Lumshyrmit village.
He was extracting coal when the accident took place.
Interestingly, the incident was not reported to the police, “No we don’t have any information, none including the mine owner has informed us about it,” said a senior police officer.
So far police have arrested several coal labourers from Mookhep, Byndihati, Khliehriat area. But no action has been initiated against any of the coal labourers and mine owners, who are still extracting coal.
