Truckers block NH 40 again; five arrested

NONGPOH :  In a repeat  of Umling incident of February 1, the  drivers of the coal-laden trucks  on Friday created  havoc  on  NH 40 in Ri Bhoi  by blocking the road by boulders at  Umsawlem under Umsning  out post.
The reason for blocking the high way is  the delay in clearing the movement of the trucks which have been stranded for many days.
The traffic movement through the National Highway got severely affected after angry coal truck drivers protested the delay in weighing their truck loads
There was a ‘no entry’ restricting the movement of the trucks which had angered as many as 100 truckers resulting the incident which occurred at around 2.40 on Friday  soon after the persons at the weighbridge resumed their task of checking the coal laden trucks.
Police arrested five truckers  in this connection and they were Nedarabbsuk Syntem, Marlanki  Suchiang, Leaderson Dkhar, and Bon Rymbai from Nartiang village  and Damonmi Bang  from  Jowai.
Soon after receiving the information about the incident, a police team led by Ri Bhoi SP and CRPF personnel rushed to the spot t to take stock of the situation.
It was on February 1 that the angry truckers attacked the   Umling weigh bridge premises comprising of the weigh bridge counter, DMR and Sales Tax and the Transport office as the truckers had to wait for at least four days to clear the formalities to carry on with the transportation of coal.
