Fire razes 4 shops in Mokokchung in Nagaland

Kohima:Four shops have been completely gutted, when a major fire broke out at Monsen Bai ward, adjacent to Assam Rifles check post in Mokokchung town. Official reports said the inferno which started on Saturday morning, burnt down goods worth around rupees nine Lakhs sixty thousand. Even though no loss of life was reported, two fire tenders along with support from police personnel and colony people residing around the incident site managed to extinguish the fire, before it could spread to the nearby areas.The cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained. According to sources, the house belonged to a group from Ungma village. Sources further said in connection with the incident, an FIR has been filed and the matter is under enquiry.(UNI)

NSCN (KK) official shot at in Dimapur at a factional clash

Kohima:A functionary of the GPRN/NSCN (Khole- Kitovi) faction was grievously injured when unidentified armed assailants fired upon him from a close range between Naga United village and Old Showuba, under Dimapur district.  According to official sources on Sunday the incident took place when the GPRN/NSCN home secretary identified as Ghukiho T Zhimo was proceeding towards Niuland side in his vehicle along with his wife and children.  Quoting eyewitnesses, sources said four persons in a car overtook the bolero near Old Showuba Bazaar and fired from close range and sped away. One of the bullets hit the right cheek of Ghukiho and exited on the other side. His family escaped unhurt, sources said.The windshield of the vehicle was also damaged, sources said and at least five shots were fired by the assailants. Police has also recovered an empty shell of .9mm from the spot.  Police said Ghukiho was rushed to Referral Hospital and was later shifted to Guwahati. The incident took place yesterday after four days, wherein one NSCN (K) cadre was shot from Signal Angami road by unidentified gunmen. (UNI)

MSME Min pitches for develop-ment of resource-based sectors

Guwahati:Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Giriraj Singh on Sunday emphasised on the need for development of resource-based sectors like food processing, sericulture and handloom and handicrafts of the North-East region. Inaugurating the new Corporate Social Responsibility Centre ‘The CSR Hub’ at Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) here, the Minister said it would play a catalytic role in channelising products in domestic and international market. IIE Director Manoj Das said there was a need for taking up innovative programmes like ‘one village one product model’ in the region for promoting rural entrepreneurship. Das also said that corporates of the region can now access IIE’s CSR Hub for their corporate social work.(PTI)
