NONGSTOIN: The Hynniewtrep People Social Organization (HPSO), West Khasi Hills, has opposed the implementation of the Rs.470 crore Nongstoin – Mawthabah road project undertaken by the Central Government on the ground that road connectivity in the entire district was being neglected.
HSPO president Marshal Syiem claimed that while the road connectivity in West Khasi Hills was turning from bad to worse forcing the NGOs to agitate for better roads, the Centre was interested in implementing the project for a village consisting of only 22 households.
“The Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highway should give immediate clarification on why the Centre is interested in constructing this road for a village having only 22 households but is neglecting the thousands of households located in rural areas of West Khasi Hills,” Syiem said.
