Financial anomalies in GHADC

SHILLONG: More than two years after the submission of the Judicial probe report into financial anomalies in GHADC, the State Government has reportedly swept the report under carpet.
It was on 2012 December that the probe report of the Judicial Inquiry Commission headed by Justice (retd) PG Agarwal Commission was submitted to the Government.
Though the Commission of Inquiry Act says that the report should be tabled in the Assembly within six months of  its submission, Government is yet to do so.
Moreover, Government spent Rs 22,41,206 as expenditure for the Judicial probe.
When contacted, an official said that he needs to check on the delay in tabling the report.
When Sanjay Goyal was the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, he undertook  an audit report and found  financial bungling  including illegal appointments in GHADC in 2009-10  when the  Congress MDC Purno K Sangma was the Chief Executive Member.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the State Government instituted a Judicial Inquiry Commission to unravel the truth.
In the first audit report of the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, it was found that  the officials  and elected members of the GHADC had allegedly misused government funds worth several crores of rupees meant for implementation of various schemes.
The task of the Judicial Inquiry Commission was  to probe the facts and circumstances leading to the financial instability in GHADC and also to examine financial irregularities and misappropriation of funds committed by GHADC.
The alleged cancellation of appointment in respect of Laskars and village court staff without reasons and illegal appointment made in various departments of the GHADC had also come under the scanner of  the Judicial Inquiry Commission  .
