KHADC wants Sec 144 CrPC lifted for Dorbar meet
SHILLONG: Miffed with the ongoing controversy over the election of the secretary of Shella village and the nonfunctioning of the Dorbar, some residents of the villages have asked the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to conduct a ‘referendum’ on the issue.
Addressing a press conference here in the city on Wednesday, Roykupar Synrem, a resident of the village, along with three others, asked the KHADC to put on hold the meeting of the Dorbar slated on February 23.
The controversy arose after two contenders – Tobias Tiewdop, the former secretary who was put under suspension and B Ora, the acting secretary appointed by the Dorbar in November 2012 – staked their claims for the post of secretary.
The matter was even dragged to the High Court of Meghalaya.
As the fight for the post of secretary continued, the district administration imposed Section 144 CrPC in December.
Interestingly, the District Council recently asked the SDO of Sohra Civil Sub-Division to lift Section 144 CrPC and allow holding of the meeting of the Dorbar Shnong following a request by the acting secretary (B Ora).
