Centre agrees to release Rajiv Mehta
New Delhi: The Centre has finally agreed to release DGP-designate of Meghalaya Rajiv Mehta and Mehta likely to assume charge next week.
The decision to this effect was taken during a meeting between Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Meghalaya Home minister Roshan Warjri held here on Thursday.
Warjri during the meeting urged the Union Home Minister to repatriate Mehta at the earliest. “The Union Home Minister agreed to my request and assured that by next week the new DGP will be repatriated to the state,” she said.
Mehta, an IPS officer from the 1981 batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, is currently serving as Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
S K Jain is currently looking after functioning of the police department as the acting DGP.
Mehta was appointed as the new DGP after PJP Hanaman went on superannuation on December 31
Warjri also discussed about the overall law and order situation in the state with the Union Home Minister. She urged the Centre to help the state in strengthening the police infrastructure and its modernisation.
Warjri also urged Singh to sanction two more additional police battalions for the State.
