SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Saturday invited ex-servicemen to take up the livelihood opportunities being offered by the State government.
Addressing the ex-servicemen at the Annual State Rally organized by the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam Regimental Centre here on Saturday, Sangma said that ex-servicemen can become potential contributors to the growth of the State and asked the defence organizations to look at the opportunities created by the State Government to meaningfully employ the ex-servicemen and their children.
Stressing on the need to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship among the ex-servicemen so that they pass on the zeal to every member of their family, Sangma reiterated the government’s commitment to work on the proposals put forward by the Directorate, including the construction of Sainik Rest House in Shillong and Tura, establishment of Zila Sainik Board office at Tura, re-employment and rehabilitation of ex-servicemen and widows and raising of Ecology Battalion.
While addressing the gathering, Sangma also assured that all the issues of the ex-servicemen would be addressed in a timely manner. The rally was attended by nearly 1000 ex-servicemen, widows, dependents and retired officers and families from all over the State.
It was organized to create awareness about the various welfare schemes announced by the Armed Forces and the State Government and the employment opportunities available for them.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also gave away awards to the 11 Gallantry Award winners and distributed gifts to 60 deserving ex-servicemen and widows.
